Bedrooms

So I’m lucky enough to have my own room at my school. It’s very different from my traditional dorm experience last year. There are many benefits to having your own room, the biggest one being privacy. I’m a pretty private person, in my opinion, and I also happen to spend a lot of time in my room. I feel like, for most people, your room is kind of like your sanctuary from the outside world. It’s your one space that you don’t have to share with others. Unless you’re married. I have some time, so it’s not something I’m worrying about currently.

My room has, let’s say, a personality. It has its ups and downs, just like any normal person. I completely forgot to mention this, but I obviously have two rooms because there are times in the year when I’m at school and other times when I’m at home. I prefer my room at home because it’s a masterpiece designed by Ikea and Wayfair.com. It’s very minimalistic, which is how I am as a person, even though I’m a straight mess at the same time. Come to think of it, the shade in my room is broken. I tried to fix it the last time I was home, but it just got worse.

When I look back at living in a dorm last year, I feel like I was much more motivated to clean because you’re literally sleeping less than 5 feet away from your roommate. Obviously, that style of living has its ups and downs, but I think it taught me to be more considerate of others, especially when living with them. That’s definitely another one of my biggest pet peeves. When I compare both rooms, though, I feel like there is a common theme, which is laundry. I hate doing laundry like most people until I pull everything out of the dryer and it smells good and is warm. Then it’s not so bad after all. However, when I’m behind on laundry (I’m really just too lazy to do it), my room really gets bad. Like really bad. It gets even worse when I have a cup because it’ll just sit on my desk empty, and I’ll get thirsty, so I’ll get a different cup of water, and then there are two cups on my desk. I’ve had up to 5 empty cups in my room at once, and let’s just say that when you combine that with laundry, my bed not made, and your homework from the night before, it’s a disaster.
